Fienchen on the Arrenberg
Need to bring home the weekly groceries, transport drinks, pick up furniture, or take the kids on an outing? You don’t always have to use a car for that. With Fienchen, the free cargo bike project for Wuppertal, anyone can easily borrow a cargo bike—for free, sustainably, and right in their neighborhood. Behind the project are dedicated volunteers from the Fahrradstadt Wuppertal association, who have been demonstrating for over 10 years just how practical shared cargo bikes are for everyday use. Around ten bikes are now available at various locations throughout the city.
There’s also a Fienchen location at Arrenberg: The bike garage is located in the beer garden at Simons 36. The process is simple: After registering once on the Fienchen website, you can reserve the bike of your choice online. Pick it up at the station at your scheduled time and return it after use. Renting is free, but the project welcomes donations to support maintenance, repairs, and the further expansion of the service.
Anyone who’s ever ridden a cargo bike quickly realizes how many errands can be conveniently run with it—without traffic jams, without searching for parking, and often even faster than by car. This is how sustainable mobility takes shape in practical, everyday life: in a neighborly, uncomplicated way, and with plenty of joy in cycling.
