The Food Savers

Saving food has become something of a tradition in Arrenberg…

With sustainability in mind, we’ve made it our mission to take a stand against food waste!

To this end, we partner with various grocery stores and organizations.

A team of dedicated volunteers picks up items that have been set aside by the stores (those past their best-by date, with bruises, torn or soiled packaging, etc.), then inspects and sorts them by usability at the “Aufbruch” on Arrenberg. Bags are then packed and, due to the current situation, distributed on Thursdays by appointment to a dedicated group of pick-up volunteers.

Even though our primary goal is to save food and use it responsibly, we’re also happy to pass on the saved goods to those who come to pick them up for financial reasons.

Our group of pick-up volunteers is as diverse as Arrenberg itself—ranging from students to retirees, with and without immigrant backgrounds.
